Making Their Mark - Americas's First Ladies

The wives of U.S. presidents are often important American figures in their own right. Although they have no official responsibilities, First Ladies are a highly visible part of U.S. government. The role of the First Lady has evolved over the centuries, from hostess of the White House to advocates for public policy.

Listed below are several short articles about some of our most prominent First Ladies. Many of them continued to do great works after leaving the White House. Our First Ladies graced the White House with charm and intelligence and many never received the acknowledgment they deserved.

We hope that you enjoy this issue of The American Antiquities Journal as we celebrate America’s First Ladies.
